Hello! Your child's experience in kindergarten is very important to me. I hope the year will be a smooth, enjoyable transition. Please click on Tips to find helpful parent information. My name is Melanie Turpin and I am your child's teacher. This year will be my eighteenth year teaching at NCES. My post high school education began at Hiwassee College where I received an Associate Degree in 1987. I graduated from the University of TN, Knoxville in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. Then, I completed a year internship at Alcoa Elementary School. I received my Master Degree in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of TN, Knoxville in 1994. In May 2001, I earned my Education Specialist Degree in Instructional Leadership at Tennessee Technological University. I reside in Knoxville and grew up in the Knoxville/Maryville area. My favorite pastime is being with family and friends. Hobbies I enjoy are gardening, traveling, reading, swimming, hiking, and snow skiing. Kindergarten is filled with a variety of fun, insightful, and challenging learning experiences. You will see much growth in your child throughout the school year. I look forward to spending time with your child!
