The best thing that
you can do to help your child is to read with them as much as
possible. Try to read at least one book per month over the
summer. Also, let your child help with math that you do at
home. Let them measure when you cook, count out fruits or vegetables
at the grocery store, measure how much they grow in a year. Allow
them to use their inquiry skills to help with Science. Ask questions
like how the sugar gets in their tea, put water in the sun and see what
happens to it, talk about how baby animals look like their parents.
Let them hear you discuss Social Studies issues like the election, discuss
your family history at reunions, what makes a good citizen. There
are all kinds of ways that you can help your child without getting out a
pencil and paper. Let them know that learning can be a fun
experience for them (you might find that it's fun for you
also!).
