The staff and parents of North Clinton Elementary School (NCES) will
explore creative and innovative methods to build the school’s and
parents’ capacity for a strong parent involvement program. A parent
involvement plan which includes the following components will then be
planned and implemented.
1. Parents and community members, both as
individuals and as groups, will be
encouraged to be actively involved as advisors and resource people in
the following ways:
- Sharing time and specific talents which complement and extend
the instructional services of the classroom teacher;
- Serving as volunteers, pending approval of the principal;
- Serving on school advisory committees and as advisors on
curriculum development projects;
- Expressing ideas and concerns by responding to surveys and
other information gathering devices; and
- Being actively involved in parent-teacher groups.
2. Parents,
family, and community members will be invited to attend and/or
actively
participate in the following school functions as appropriate.

will be invited to an annual meeting which provides information to
parents on the school’s participation in Title 1, Title 1
requirements, and the rights of parents to be involved at school.
(#1-a)
5. Parents will be involved
in timely and on-going planning, review, and improvement of NCES
parent involvement programs. (#1-c)
6. Parent involvement
activities will be discussed and schedules announced in NCES
newsletters, PTO meetings, parent conferences, at the annual Title 1
meeting, on the school website, and on Channel 95. (#1-c)
7. NCES Parents will be
provided opportunities (PTO meetings, conferences, and school
activities, advisory committees) to participate in decisions relating
to the education of their child and to make suggestions to which the
school will respond in a timely manner. (#1-d)
8. Learning materials and
parent resources are available in the parent library section located
in the NCES library, at the Clinton City Public Library, and on the
Clinton City Schools website. Explanations of the curriculum taught
and state testing used to assess student achievement are available
from the NCES office, the NCES teachers, and can also be located on
the school system website.
9. An NCES School-Parent
Compact will be developed jointly with parents; will include how
parents, school staff, and students will share the responsibility for
improving student achievement; and will foster the development of a
school-parent partnership to help students achieve state standards.
(#1-e)
10. The parent involvement
program will be assessed annually to determine its effectiveness and
to determine what action, if any, needs to be taken to increase
parental participation. (#1-c)
11. A survey will be sent
home in the spring of each school year asking parents to rate the
success of the Title 1 program, the amount and quality of parent
involvement activities, and to offer comments for program
improvements. (#1-c)
12. A parent involvement
review committee composed of PTO parent representatives will review
and/or revise the parent involvement plan annually. The content,
effectiveness, and preventive barriers for successful parental
involvement will be evaluated. Findings will be used to design
strategies for a more effective parent involvement program.
